Privacy Policy

This policy applies to any personal data provided to my business. I trade under the name Karen Butler, using Karen Butler Designs or Literally Yarn brands.


I use any data you provide me with, only for the purposes for which it was supplied. I do not share data and keep the minimal amount of data I maintain secure. All personal data I store is only accessible by me, or is accessed by using password protected services such as Payhip, Ravelry and MailChimp; and only I know the password for these services. 


I use third-party services for pattern sales and mailing list. These third-party providers will, as a rule, only collect, use and share your information in order to provide the relevant services. I have provided links where appropriate in the information below to their privacy policy.

Mailing List – MailChimp

My mailing list is provided by MailChimp, and you can read their privacy policy here. Details are only included for individuals who have signed up to my newsletter. Your details (email address and first name) are stored by MailChimp and will only be used for sending out my newsletter with news and subscriber offers. All newsletters include an unsubscribe option, so you can unsubscribe at any time to delete your information.

Pattern Sales – Payhip

For patterns purchased via Payhip you can read their privacy policy hereFor purchases, I receive notification of purchases which Payhip sends out automatically. These are kept for three months in case of Paypal disputes before deleting. I can access purchase records stored on Payhip if you have any queries about purchases or to send you any updates to the patterns. These records include purchased items and date, email address, and approximate location when the purchase was made.

Pattern Sales – Ravelry

For patterns purchased via Ravelry, (WARNING: there are currently accessibility issues with the Ravelry site with risk of seizure, migraine, vertigo and other issues) you can read their privacy policy hereFor purchases, I receive a copy of the download email which Ravelry sends out automatically as proof of delivery. These are kept for three months in case of Paypal disputes before deleting. I can access purchase records stored on Ravelry if you have any queries about purchases or to send you any updates to the patterns in your Ravelry library. These records include Ravelry name and email address.

Pattern Sales – Other

My patterns are also available from a number of other sites and their privacy policy can be accessed as follows: Lovecrafts and The Yarn Café. If you purchase one of my patterns from The Yarn Café and request that it is placed in your Ravelry library, I will be provided with your Ravelry name. I do not receive any other identifying information from these sites.

Payments – PayPal

PayPal is used for processing payments and you can read their privacy policy here. PayPal records include full name and Paypal ID. Any emails from PayPal regarding transactions are kept for three months in case of queries, before deleting. Records of financial transactions are kept for legal requirements, specifically accounting and tax purposes.

Direct Email

If you contact me by email, I will have access to your email address so I can reply to you, and any other information you include. Emails are stored so I have a record if you contact me again with a related query. I may refer to information you provided about problems when correcting/
updating knitting patterns, or information I publish elsewhere such as on my website.  Your emails will be kept private, and never shared.

Blog

My blog is held on Blogger and you can read their privacy policy here. My blog is currently inactive.

Cookies

The sites I use to provide services (MailChimp, Payhip, Ravelry, Lovecrafts, The Yarn Café, Blogger and  PayPal) may use cookies to remember your activity, including comments you had made or items in your shopping cart. These can all be deleted via your browser.

Your Rights

You have the right to ask what data I hold, and to request that I correct errors, or delete any which I do not need for legal business reasons.
